Exactly 499 words! This is kinda a novel version of the beginning to my manga, "Second Chance Angel". I only have two pages actually drawn out... But, yeah, enjoy~! Everything was light as a feather. She felt like she was floating on air. What had happened to the hard floor she'd been kneeling on? What about the medicine bottle that had been in her hand? She was so relaxed... like she could just stay in the suspended state for eternity... Then, a blinding light appeared before her, swallowing her up. An unseen something seemed to close in around her, almost suffocating her. Was she dying? Was this really what happens when you die? Perhaps the feeling of floating was the beginning. After overdosing, you have an out of body experience first, then you die?
Suddenly, all the pressure surrounding her disappeared. She could feel something solid under her feet. She looked down to see absolute darkness. There was nothing below her at all. Out of the dark surrounding her shined a tiny sliver of sunlight. The light landed on a shimmering gold gate that she'd not noticed until then. An enormous lock prevented anyone from going past it. Slowly, she crept up to the colossal gate, trying her hardest to peer into what lay beyond. Wrapping her hands around the golden bars, she placed her head between two of them in a childish manner. A few pure white feathers fell from above, one landing on the top of her dark hair. She looked up to find the source and found a young man floating down, angelic wings protruding from his back.
“Hello, Aiko,” he greeted her, a warm smile gracing his face as he flattened his wings against his back. “My name is Miheil. Do you know where you are?” She glanced around the area again and shook her head. “This is Heaven, Aiko. You're not supposed to be here yet.” His pale hand reached out the stroke her right cheek. “But I know why you're here now. God knows, as well. Do you remember?”
A thousand scenes flashed through her mind so quickly. The faces of her classmates, their voices... the terrible things they'd said and done to her. Finally, the chilling image of her dead mother flickered before her eyes. Aiko fell to her knees, burying her face in her hands. She sobbed uncontrollably, crying out, “Make it stop!!”
Through the bars of the gate, the angel took one of her hands and helped her stand. Wiping away her tears, Miheil continued, “God has searched your heart and knows you are a good person. It wasn't supposed to be your time. You will be given one wish, something that will have prevented you from choosing death over life. Then your life will continue from the point before you picked up the medicine, with the wish in effect.” The angel took a few steps back and unfurled his wings. “Now... What is your wish?”
Aiko closed her eyes and thought hard. What had she been missing the last few years? She looked up at him and answered, “One friend...”

Just a simple short story I whipped up in a day about my superhero. He originally started as a Marvel hero but DC just fits much better.
It was odd, the city of Gothams night always seemed so quiet. I knew from the news and peoples hushed stories in between classes it wasn't true. It was just hard to believe somewhere, in between the inky darkness and buzzing florescent skyline of the city, the city I now called home, was a seemingly endless battle between capes and criminals was going on. Easy to see how someone like me could loose his way.
It was a battle I guess I was a part of now. Just a week ago I was a normal guy. Amazing what a deal with a timeless extradiminsional being from a nearby plane could do for a guy. Now here I was, waiting in the alley for something, driven here by circumstantial variables and an inexplicable instinctual need.
"Whatever it is I'm waiting for better happen quick. I have a term paper to do." I muttered in a low voice, the cold air fogging my breath.
I silenced myself as a couple of voices came near, one male, one female.
"C'mon babe, one kiss! It's all I'm asking for!" a males voice asked forcefully.
"No! I'm just not comfortable!" the female voice protested the two being pushed, guided. The streetlight silhouetted figures continued their dance, it gradually growing more aggressive.
"Then allow me to make you comfortable." the figure growled his shadowy outline growing more grotesque in shape. Bat-like wings growing out of the mans arms, face reshaping as he's covered in black fur.
The female tried to scream, muffled by this things grasp.
I was shocked, horrified. I couldn't just watch this, helplessly. I needed, wanted to do something. Monster or not, I had to act. I had to stop all of this from happening. My brain was racing a mile a minuet and my heart twice that. "Hey! Bat...thing!" I said shakily, clinching my fist. I charged, swinging my fist at the monster. It connected with a bit of a weak smack. I'm not a push over but this thing was tough.
He hit me and I was sent flying into a pile of trash cans the a calamitous clatter, trash spilling out onto me. "Mortal! I'll feast upon your flesh for bothering me!" he said in a hissing growl. "But first!" he said, turning back to the girl.
I felt the coppery taste of my blood filled my mouth. The being who I made a deal withs words filled my head "When the time comes, the power you seek will come to you."
"Now would be a hell of a time for a little power." I grumbled, struggling. A blueish-white flames covered my body filling with righteous fury. "I was talking to you." I called out, standing up, gifted form renewed with energy and power. It was then, somewhere between the horror of the monsters face and the awe of the girl I found my calling.
"W-what are you?" the monster hissed at me letting go long enough for the girl to slip away.
"I am a guardian." Was my simple but firm reply.
